This piece was of the 'Status' Danish-inspired range. Frystark furniture was manufactured in Port Elizabeth from 1948. Founders Derick & Douglas Frye was known for sourcing veneers, oils, and designs from Europe. In the 1960s, they relocated to Cape Town and partnered with the Starke furniture manufacturing company. This sideboard was purchased along with a dining set by the original owner in Woodstock in 1972. It has been well-preserved and is now ready for a new home.
As noted in the Frystark Status Range Catalogue: “Status Range sideboards may be used as room dividers, they look as good from the back as they do from the front.” The backboard has the same beautiful wood than the rest of the piece.
This sideboard features sliding doors, four drawers, and signature tapered legs. It boasts a beautiful warm teak wood grain, book-matched veneer, and sculpted recessed drawer pulls—a true collector's piece.
Fun Fact: The bottom of the top drawer features the iconic Frystark stamp, along with a quality assurance check signed by the factory officer at the time. Such dedication to quality is rare.
Condition: Remarkably well-preserved for its age, showing some subtle signs of wear. There is a dark mark on the middle doorfront that has been repaired, but is still slightly visible. Please refer to the photos for a closer look. The piece has undergone careful restoration and refinishing for added endurance.
