Stunning Mid-Century Modern DS Vorster dining set. The set flaunts a beautiful triangular extendable dining table and six sleek swivel carver dining chairs.

DS Vorster, a renowned South African mid-century furniture maker, is celebrated for his innovative designs and exceptional craftsmanship. The table was sourced from our local furniture auction house. It stood out like a diamond among the rubble. And what a gem it is. The table boasts a robust base design, making it incredibly sturdy. The top flaunts beveled edging and a brand new Sapele veneer surface. The table's attention to detail is evident in its felt-lined extension brackets and stowaway extension. Beneath the extension, the table bears its maker's mark: a DS Vorster sticker alongside his signature and the date, September 11, 1962. The table comfortably sits 6 guests unextended and 8 when extended.

The dining chairs came to us through the legendary Retromod, who connected us with Nicholas here in Cape Town seeking to rehome his grandfather’s dining chairs. These chairs, rich with history, had seen generations pass and told stories with every curve and dimple. We completely stripped, sanded, and resealed them, ensuring the wood was nourished and protected. The upholstery was redone in an elegant grey fabric. These chairs are a testament to craftsmanship, with backs that allow for a swivel motion—perfect for leaning in to take a bite of a homemade meal or leaning back to enjoy the company of loved ones.

The table and chairs were not originally sourced together, but as a true nod to great furniture making, they share a remarkable harmony simply by being crafted by the same master. The chairs fit beautifully under the table, their curves adorning the robust table like fruit on a majestic tree.

Due to its rarity and exceptional craftsmanship, this item is available separately, with priority given to those interested in purchasing the complete set. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this project. This project supported many local small businesses through collaborations on restoration, upholstery, and more.
